Getting Started with A Little Paint

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I get an estimate?

You can reach out through our website, call, text, or email. From there, we’ll schedule a walkthrough so we can see the space, talk through the project, and provide a clear written estimate.

Are estimates free?

Yes. Estimates are free for most residential painting projects. Your estimate will include the project scope, pricing, recommended products, and any notes about repairs, prep, or special conditions.

What areas do you serve?

A Little Paint serves Chicago and nearby surrounding areas. If you’re not sure whether your project is within range, just reach out.

How far in advance should I schedule?

A few weeks ahead is usually best, especially during busy seasons. If you have a deadline, let us know early so we can talk through timing.

Preparing Your Home

What should I do before painting begins?

Please remove fragile items, valuables, small personal belongings, and anything hanging on the walls in the work areas. Large furniture can usually be moved and protected as part of the project.

How do you protect my home?

We protect floors, furniture, fixtures, and surrounding surfaces with drop cloths, masking, plastic, and paper as needed. The goal is simple: paint where it belongs, and nowhere else.

What about pets and children?

For safety and to help us keep the work moving, pets and children should stay out of active work areas while we’re painting.

Process and Quality

What prep work is included?

Prep depends on the condition of the surfaces and the scope of the estimate. It may include patching, sanding, caulking, cleaning, priming, and minor repairs.

Good paint work starts before the paint goes on the wall.

How many coats do you apply?

Most projects include two finish coats unless otherwise noted. Certain color changes, surfaces, or products may require additional coats, which we’ll discuss before moving forward.

What paint brands do you use?

We typically recommend quality products from trusted brands such as Benjamin Moore. Product recommendations depend on the surface, room, sheen, durability needs, and budget.

Do you offer low-VOC paint options?

Yes. Low-VOC and low-odor products are available and often recommended for interior projects.

Do you use dustless sanding?

Whenever possible, yes. We use dustless sanding equipment with HEPA filtration during repairs and surface prep to help keep dust under control.

It is not magic, and painting is still work being done inside your home. But good dust control makes a real difference.

How clean will the project be?

We keep the workspace organized during the project and clean up at the end of each day. When the job is complete, we remove our materials, coverings, and job-related debris.

Communication and Scheduling

Who will manage my project?

You’ll have a clear point of contact throughout the project. On most projects, that means direct communication with Brendan.

How long will my project take?

It depends on the size, condition, and scope of the project. A single room may take a day or two. Larger interiors, cabinet projects, repairs, or specialty finishes may take longer. Your estimate will include a projected timeline.

What happens if unexpected issues come up?

Sometimes hidden damage or surface problems show up once work begins. If that happens, we’ll explain what we found, talk through your options, and get approval before moving forward with additional work whenever practical.

Insurance, Payment, and Warranty

Are you insured?

Yes. A Little Paint carries insurance, and proof of insurance is available upon request.

Do you require a deposit?

Most projects require a deposit to reserve time on the schedule. Payment terms will be listed in your estimate.

When is final payment due?

Final payment is due upon substantial completion unless otherwise noted in the estimate. We’ll complete a final walkthrough and address reasonable touch-ups related to the agreed scope.

Do you warranty your work?

Yes. A Little Paint stands behind its workmanship. Warranty details are included in your estimate or contract and typically cover workmanship-related coating failure, such as peeling or blistering caused by improper application.

The warranty does not cover issues caused by moisture, leaks, structural movement, failed existing coatings, damage by others, normal wear and tear, or conditions outside our control.

Do you handle drywall, plaster, or wood repairs?
